Compass Calibration, Part 1

Just for today, I will not give in to Resistance.

In my experience, "Resistance" is real: a shapeshifting, malign psychological force whose only goal is to prevent you from doing anything that entails the deferment of gratification in service of the growth of your soul. Resistance's goal is not to prevent or hamper but to kill. This means no matter how much quarter you give, it will always want more until the last spark of your spirit is extinguished. Thus the battle is always now, and the stakes are always high.

It is helpful to remember that for all the real dangers it poses, Resistance is only the knee-jerk response of the ego to the call of the spirit. Remembering the shadow nature of Resistance can be helpful in the fight against it. For instance, it is unwise to attack Resistance directly. Resistance can run forever, giving you plenty of distractions but nothing to hit save for red herrings and straw men. The way to fight Resistance is to ignore its waving matador's cape and instead focus your efforts on the things that nurture your soul, the things it hates. This will weaken Resistance and call into play the equally intangible but potent forces that Assist on your behalf.

As long as there is life, there will be Resistance. It pays to remember.
